Our injury report reads like a fantasy football team—it’s amazing how well we did yesterday with 2nd and (sometimes) 3rd string players. The defense sure showed their stuff this week. Hello, interceptions! I’d like to see a little more of that, for sure.

Kelvin Hayden really stepped up—I’m hoping to see him snag a career high number this year. He’s halfway there already—and we’re just over halfway through the season. I’ve decided the best way to make that happen is to convince the sea of blue in Indy to start wearing his jersey!

So, hang Manning’s jersey back in the closet, and grab a #26.

Real Men Wear Pink

Last year, the NFL really stepped up its support of Breast Cancer Awareness month and this weekend’s game kicked off the 2010 Crucial Catch campaign. This year focuses on encouraging women to have an annual screening to catch breast cancer before it’s too late—early detection is the key to survival. Players, coaches & referees donned pink in support of the fight against breast cancer. (Although, did you see Ron Winter struggling with his pink whistle? I guess it’s a good thing he brought a spare.)

I just love to see the guys on the field, sporting pink gloves, towels & shoes! If you’d like to have the same pink & white hats the team wears on the sideline, they are available for purchase. And, this is the only time of year I don’t get irritated at all the pink Colts stuff marketed to women. We bleed blue around here! But, it’s a great message so I fully support breast cancer pink.

Three Things Thursday: Halloween Edition

Fall is my very favorite season—and not just for football! The girls love it too. There’s the candy, of course, and dressing up. But they love the decorations, trips to the pumpkin patch & Halloween-themed clothing. My youngest is actually having a Halloween party for her early-November birthday. Earlier this week, we pulled the fall decorations out of storage. It is my plan to sort through them, pare down a bit and start decorating for Halloween.

One of the girls’ favorite decorations are the pumpkins—carved, painted or bedazzled, they love to have them on the porch and around the house. But carving is so much work! Enter craft pumpkins, which you can store year after year to show off your mad pumpkin carving skills. I have a white craft pumpkin set aside for some intricate Colts carvings—I want to put a string of blue lights in them to really finish it off. This will be a Halloween decoration I’m pretty sure I can justify keeping around awhile!

Dad’s Lucky Socks

Yesterday, my dad did laundry for the first time in my adult life. Possibly EVER. And, why? Because amidst the chaos of my sister’s wedding, his lucky socks didn’t get washed last week. He realized Sunday morning that he’d need them before the Colts game, and my mom refused to indulge his, um, obsession. So, he learned to do laundry—now, that’s serious dedication to the 12th man position.

But, it worked—so I guess I’m off to find socks for the entire family!

Three Things Thursday: School Days Edition

I had a lot of fun last week, looking up fun items for Manning Bowl. Along the way, I discovered several awesome t-shirts that I’ll be showcasing throughout the season. And, since we all know how much I love Reggie Wayne, I figured I should start with this one.

It’s just basic math, of course. Peyton Manning plus Reggie Wayne absolutely equals touchdown. Things have been pretty spread out so far this season, but I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of 87 as the season goes on. I’m also looking forward to watching the Ws add up—see? Math is fun!

Our home opener is Sunday night, and the Mannings are coming to town! The Colts vs. Giants game is my favorite of the season—I get a kick out of the way the media plays up the Manning vs. Manning showdown. I love the clips they show throughout the game of little Eli & Peyton playing football together. I love the entire concept of the sport being a deep-rooted part of a family.

And, I am loving the sibling rivalry t-shirts fans have made! The Colts Pro Shop actually has several brother vs. brother items that are specific to this weekend’s game. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how very excited I am for this weekend. Just 48 hours to Colts’ season opener—and we have fall weather to go with it!

With football season comes the need to entertain the girls while the hubby and I zone out for the duration of the game. I think the word search in the NFL games pack I just downloaded will be just the thing for our older girls.

The sports trivia is a bit beyond them but should be a lot of fun for the grownups during commercial breaks & halftime. Especially for me, since I’m positive I’ll completely dominate the hubby. (Just sayin’.)
