Our injury report reads like a fantasy football team—it’s amazing how well we did yesterday with 2nd and (sometimes) 3rd string players. The defense sure showed their stuff this week. Hello, interceptions! I’d like to see a little more of that, for sure.

Kelvin Hayden really stepped up—I’m hoping to see him snag a career high number this year. He’s halfway there already—and we’re just over halfway through the season. I’ve decided the best way to make that happen is to convince the sea of blue in Indy to start wearing his jersey!

So, hang Manning’s jersey back in the closet, and grab a #26.

Real Men Wear Pink

Last year, the NFL really stepped up its support of Breast Cancer Awareness month and this weekend’s game kicked off the 2010 Crucial Catch campaign. This year focuses on encouraging women to have an annual screening to catch breast cancer before it’s too late—early detection is the key to survival. Players, coaches & referees donned pink in support of the fight against breast cancer. (Although, did you see Ron Winter struggling with his pink whistle? I guess it’s a good thing he brought a spare.)

I just love to see the guys on the field, sporting pink gloves, towels & shoes! If you’d like to have the same pink & white hats the team wears on the sideline, they are available for purchase. And, this is the only time of year I don’t get irritated at all the pink Colts stuff marketed to women. We bleed blue around here! But, it’s a great message so I fully support breast cancer pink.

Dad’s Lucky Socks

Yesterday, my dad did laundry for the first time in my adult life. Possibly EVER. And, why? Because amidst the chaos of my sister’s wedding, his lucky socks didn’t get washed last week. He realized Sunday morning that he’d need them before the Colts game, and my mom refused to indulge his, um, obsession. So, he learned to do laundry—now, that’s serious dedication to the 12th man position.

But, it worked—so I guess I’m off to find socks for the entire family!

I had a lot of fun last week, looking up fun items for Manning Bowl. Along the way, I discovered several awesome t-shirts that I’ll be showcasing throughout the season. And, since we all know how much I love Reggie Wayne, I figured I should start with this one.

It’s just basic math, of course. Peyton Manning plus Reggie Wayne absolutely equals touchdown. Things have been pretty spread out so far this season, but I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of 87 as the season goes on. I’m also looking forward to watching the Ws add up—see? Math is fun!

Our home opener is Sunday night, and the Mannings are coming to town! The Colts vs. Giants game is my favorite of the season—I get a kick out of the way the media plays up the Manning vs. Manning showdown. I love the clips they show throughout the game of little Eli & Peyton playing football together. I love the entire concept of the sport being a deep-rooted part of a family.

And, I am loving the sibling rivalry t-shirts fans have made! The Colts Pro Shop actually has several brother vs. brother items that are specific to this weekend’s game. But, the fan-designed gear is even better. These fun tees can be worn all season—no matter which Manning you support! Or, if you just can’t decide—someone should send a few to Archie & Olivia.

Colts Night Practice Party (Or Why Being a Girl Rocks)

Last night, we headed to Anderson University for the Night Practice Party to celebrate the end of Colts Training Camp. The girls had a great time at Colts City, as usual, and I enjoyed an up close & personal look at our boys in blue on the practice field.

We watched them run drills, scrimmage and chat, in a fun, relaxed environment. That’s my favorite part of training camp—while the rookies & 2nd line players are busting their butt to prove themselves, the guys we already know & love are just out there having a great time, getting back into gear for the season.

They have a much more casual attitude, and you can just see the love of the game on their faces. Towards the end of practice, we hung out by the fence in hopes of catching a few autographs.

We haven’t been very successful at it in the past, but we carried our autograph football & fave jerseys, just in case. The hubby would love to have Peyton Manning’s Superbowl jersey autographed. I, of course, am constantly stalking Reggie Wayne. We wandered along the fence and watched a bunch of guys we don’t know (yet?) sign footballs & posters.

Then, I saw the crowd.

It was obviously a major player so we headed that direction with our football. When I saw Reggie Wayne along the fence, I pretty much tossed everything at my family and ran. The crowd was huge & mostly filled with guys much bigger than I. The hubby managed to squeeze in with our football, but I was determined to get my jersey signed too.

I stood off the side of the crowd, leaned my cleavage over the fence and yelled, “Reggie! Big fan, right over here.” He looked at me, grinned and went back to signing autographs. But, when he finished the section he was working, Reggie Wayne—yes, that one!—walked over to me, took my jersey and signed what appears to be his name. Sometimes? Being a girl is awesome.

And, that is the story of how my boobs got an autographed Reggie Wayne jersey.

The NFL Draft starts Thursday, but you can get the hat now! We pick next to last, of course, and I know next to nothing about it. I don’t actually follow college ball so I never know the guys coming in, but by this time next year I’ll know all there is to know about the ones worth watching.

After all, he hasn’t actually played in the NFL all year since being released from the Colts in the off-season. However, I am a little surprised they still have any available. Harrison jerseys were always a hot seller, and a decent, screen-printed jersey for any player will run $65-100 or more.

Football Fanatics is currently selling a variety of Marvin Harrison jerseys for $49.99. They only have 2 sizes left in this basic, men’s jersey. Probably, we’ll have to buy a new one for the hubby. You’ll still find him in his ratty Harrison jersey every Sunday. He can’t quite seem to grasp that he really isn’t playing anymore. Anyone else in denial?
